  1. …home furnishings should be beautiful, practical, and thoughtfully interactive

  2. …technology is secondary to our lives and relationships

  3. …quality is the root of minimalism

So, each Hum piece is…

  1. …designed to be used and seen

  2. …screenless

  3. …built by hand in Englewood, CO from the highest quality materials and components available

About Ryan

Principal Designer at Hum

In my first 38 years I worked as a construction laborer, market researcher, digital designer, sandwich maker, bartender, and eventually landed as a middle-manager at a big tech company where I worked until 2024.

While working in tech, designing smartphone apps, automation software, and dozens of other apps, I consistently found myself wanting to reach beyond the pixels on the screen to solve problems and create things worth keeping.

I found myself filling my spare time learning and experimenting with the design and building of physical objects. Welding, playing with light, building furniture for friends and family, and doing just about anything to recover from the 8 hours/day I spent at my computer doing.

The urge to have an impact beyond digital experiences kept growing…

In 2024, after 18 years in the corporate world and a few more creating furniture as a passion, I signed off of my corporate-issued computer for the last time and devoted the rest of my life to making beautiful, practical, and gracefully interactive furniture.

While the quality of design and craftsmanship of my work has improved over the years, the genuine interest in making pieces that are incomplete until they are used has never wavered.

Hum is for humble. Let’s make something together.
